From Blood and Ashes
Tollivander the Great
The stories of Tollivander’s adventures are too numerous to count and favorites of many people throughout the Nine Kingdoms.
According to the stories, Tollivander started off as a stable boy in an ancient kingdom. Growing up, he had always displayed an impressive potential for intellect. His keen mind, however, did much to intimidate those around him. Many became very concerned at what such a smart – though low-born – young man might do with such gifts.
One day, when he was still a boy, he stood up to a noble’s children while they were tormenting another boy. In the confrontation, he punched one of the young nobles, breaking his nose. Knowing that the punishment would be extreme, he fled from his home.
Deep in the Old Woods, Tollivander discovered an old cave with strange, blue markings on the wall. It is often said that those markings burned into his mind and gave him the powers he would later become famous for. Of course, there are other stories about where he received his powers (from being graced by the gods to wresting the powers away from a daemon); but this is the most common.
Tollivander, through the course of his journeys; saved kingdoms and empires, discovered lost races and powerful artifacts, battled minions of the Old Gods, traveled through different worlds, and spoke directly with the gods. One tale even insists that Gaianya bestowed a kiss upon him for his bravery and ingenuity.
Among the items he is said to possess are a cloak made of moon beams, a helm that allows him to see into the future, a sword that can sunder castle walls, a horse capable of running between worlds, a staff made from the First Tree, and 10 rings that allow him to control the elements (which elements varies from tale to tale).
